I wrote a newsletter for the U.S. Forest Service in the vast Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. I wrote a daily column and weekly in-depth stories for the Wall Street Transcript. Moving to Upstate New York I served as a reporter and arts critic for the Catskill Mountain News. I added on regular coverage for the Kingston Daily Freeman. I became a reporter and arts critic for Woodstock Times and its sister publications in New Paltz and Saugerties. I was named editor at The Mountain Eagle, a regional weekly, and then founded and edited The Phoenicia Times and Olive Free Press. I edited the Shawangunk Journal and Generation Monthly; I edited and wrote for Ulster Publishing's special sections and submitted regular editorials and features to the Albany Times Union and Poughkeepsie Journal. I kept up my writing and editing, contribution 12 to 20 stories a week to the various publications I worked with, for 35 years, winning New York Press Award prizes for everything from Obituaries and arts coverage to Community Newspapering and editorials. It was a noble profession, one that fueled my life.
