While working as a community journalist, Paul Smart also maintained his writing poetry, essays, and fiction by taking the discipline he learned as a writer and editor for thirty-plus years to successfully turn his talents to books, both as an author and publisher. He has spread wings to encompass prose-poems and memoir, novels and analysis, history and the surreal. That experience started with ghost writing work on a variety of topics picked up during his years as a reader at various NYC literary agencies, as well as stints writing books for Rosen Publishing and other houses, he has published three books: Rock & Woodstock, With Different Eyes: A Covid Waltz in Words and Images and Overlook: A Rock & Roll Fable. He also consulted on several book projects, and edited and published Barry Gerson's 2024 art/healing tome, Elixir of Light. He is currently working on a companion-piece to WDE that takes on the subject of creativity in these final days of capitalism, as well as a novel featuring Winslow Homer as protagonist.
